MZP raises concern over influx of ILP violators via Sairang Train Route
Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Mizoram’s apex student body, has voiced serious concerns over the increasing number of individuals allegedly entering the state without valid Inner Line Permits (ILP), particularly through the newly operational Sairang railway station.At a press conference held at Aizawl Press Club, MZP President Dr C. Lalremruata expressed alarm over the fact that train tickets from Guwahati to Sairang are frequently sold out, yet the number of ILPs issued remains disproportionately low. “This strongly suggests that many outsiders may be entering the state without proper documentation,” the MZP President stated.
Following a recent inspection visit to the Sairang railway station, the student body concluded that the station was likely inaugurated prematurely, with inadequate preparedness on the part of both the central and state governments. “The people of Mizoram are bearing the brunt of this lack of planning,” the MZP President said.Between September 14 and October 7, only 3,852 ILPs were issued, the MZP reported. Additionally, six beggars were reportedly sent back from the station premises.During their inspection on 8th October, the group said it intercepted 30 individuals attempting to leave the station without valid permits.
Dr C. Lalremruata also noted that the train slows down noticeably near the railway points at Hortoki, Kawnpui, and Mualkhang, raising concerns that some individuals may be disembarking illegally at these locations to avoid ILP checks.To address the issue, the student body has urged the state government and relevant authorities to strengthen enforcement. Their recommendations include deploying more police personnel, installing CCTV cameras, erecting fences, ensuring proper scanning facilities, and posting Excise and Narcotics officers at key locations.“Strict monitoring of the ILP system is essential to safeguard Mizoram’s interests and ensure the integrity of its administrative framework,” the MZP President Dr C. Lalremruata emphasized.
